The new face of Pac-Man

I got the shock of my life earlier today when I searched for Pac-Man on the Internet. The top three results were okay: All about the video game Pac-Man—past, present and future. The succeeding results, however, were, as I said, a shock.
How true is it that our video game hero is slowly being wiped out […]

Duke Nukem Forever round the corner?

Gamasutra has been busy speaking to George Broussard of 3D Realms, the studio who will ultimately be held responsible for the long overdue Duke Nukem Forever.
The game has been worked on in various forms for almost 10 years, having been originally announced in April 1997, and the update describes the current state of the title, […]

MJ’s Sonic Influence…

Did you get the title there? A sonic influence? I know! How clever was that?
Recently reported on 4cr is this really quite crazy tale that child-loving, face-swapping, spinny whizzer Michael Jackson was originally enlisted by Sega to record the soundtrack to Sonic 3. Watch this short video and listen for yourself: (Warning: Video contains music […]

Forget Mario Party! It’s Mario Politics!

Nintendo Gal posted this on her blog (which you should be reading if you’re not already) earlier today. It’s an advert for a Dutch political party based upon Super Mario Brothers. Not just loosely based on it mind, this thing has the music and sound effects right there in the advert.
I know nothing of the […]

Speed Run: Sonic The Hedgehog

Dear Jared,
I’m unhappy.
I mean, no disrespect to you Jared Andurilz, but you’re only just older than the game itself. How in the name of all that is good and proper have you found the time to attempt this speed run 37,000 times? Was that a typo? Thirty seven thousand?
Don’t get me wrong, you’ve done a […]

Sonikku!

I just spotted these somewhat weird Sonic Adventure commercials on Digg.
We catch up with our intrepid hero and his friends (represented with plush toys which I’m sure were trying to be sold at the same time) aboard a plane. Sonic jumps out of the plane and, get this, impales his head upon a spear.
Really.
The other […]

Bubble Bobble Revolution meets criticism

We all remember that theme music don’t we? It’s one of my most treasured of 8-bit experiences. Bubble Bobble was one of the first games I ever played when I got a NES for Christmas all those years ago, so obviously when I found out that Rising Star games had been tasked with giving the […]

Game Boy one of 50 greatest gadgets

PCWorld.com polled their editors recently to assemble a list of the 50 greatest gadgets of the past 50 years. There are some fair mentions in there, but the list is ruined when you hit number 26.
The Game Boy only ranks 26. Twenty Six? Ridiculous. That handheld, and the variations that succeeded it have done far […]
